Back to our vacation… we left home on the 24th – our 17 year anniversary. Hard to believe and MUCH too busy to do anything more special that get out of the house on time. :)
Which, shockingly enough, we actually did!!! It was a good thing too – what was supposed to be a 3 hour trip with an hour for dinner and potty-stops, turned into a 6.5 hour trip. A smoking tire, loose rivets, and an overloaded boat trailer took all the momentum from our on-time departure.
We were grateful for the plan to spend the night with my Uncle Bob and Aunt Ev in Bellingham otherwise we would have had to find a hotel somewhere and may not have made it to our first night’s reservation. We socialized a bit with the Friesen 5 and Poppy and enjoyed some yummy strawberries and cake. Sorry we missed the blonde Friesens!
Shelby was so excited she had to whip her hair around a bit…
A good night’s sleep, a trip to Les Schwab for a tire fix, and we were on the road again – and it was smooth sailing all the way there.
We hit the border at 11 and we drove through without any problems, but minus some apples… oh well.
Lots of things to do in the car – 2 kids with us…
And two kids with Grandpa and Grandma. They had a written rotation of who would sit in which car when. Worked out well actually. But since we have a mathematical calculation for who sits where in the car on regular days, what could you expect? HAHA!
Lots of beautiful scenery along this drive. I was having major allergy problems so sorry for the crappy pictures through the windows…
It was a beautiful day for driving!
The final stop in civilization was 70 mile house – which we thought was odd since everything is in kilometers. But we learned that it was part of the wagon trail and was so named as a marking point on that trail!
A little gas, a look at the souvenirs, a potty stop -
And from there, we turned down this unassuming rural road headed into nowhere…
(More to come… :)
