End of Year Celebration

This weekend we had our End Of Year Celebration for our homeschool community. We had over 200 people come to celebrate the accomplishments of our families and it was a wonderful night! (but boy am I glad to be on the other side of it!). We do end early to give homeschooling families a chance to travel on the off season, to catch up on areas they may have lagged on during the year, or to do some other fun thing that they want to do as a family.

I am one of 5 directors in my community – what a privilege it is to be a part of such a wonderful group of women and families!

The Challenge B group (wrong slide behind them), 13-15 year olds, won their Mock Trial the next day – so Awesome!

Each of the 8 classes got up on stage & demonstrated some of the memory work they had learned through the year. Here is Nate’s class singing “In 1969, Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin were the first men to walk on the moon” – they are being moons… FUN!

Last year Manda was asked to sing the Presidents song she had learned and this year she sang the First 12 Elements of the Periodic table. This is a great demonstration how kids learn just from exposure – I did not specifically teach it to her, she just picked it up while we were doing our school. (don’t you love how Nate got up with her and Michelle is shushing him – LOL!)

And Erica and Ryan got a special recognition – Memory Master. If a student chooses, they can work to prove mastery over all 24 weeks of the grammar of History, Timeline, Math, Geography, Latin, English, and Science. Students have to be tested 4 times to prove that they have memorized all of it – and they both accomplished it! We had 10 students and 2 moms make MM this year – and at our event, they all got up and did the timeline from start to finish – 160 points from Creation to Modern America. I invited any student who wanted to come up and say it with them – so Nate went up cause he knows most of it as well. It is a pretty impressive thing to hear them all recite it without any prompting…

I have taken on a new role with CC, I am now also the Support Manager over the 5 county South Puget Sound area, in addition to being the Foundations/Essentials Director for our community. We have 5 communities here, with a total of 13 directors and a potential new community! We have experienced A LOT of growth, so this summer will prove to be a busy time for me!
