Glacier Day 2: 6.20.15

Well another day of slow morning going. We finally left the trailer at 10am.
I think I must explain a strange phenomenon that our trailer seems to cause. We call it “Trailer Crack.” At home, we are all awake by 7 or 7:30 – even on days when we can sleep in. But when we sleep in this trailer, we ALL sleep till well past 8 – often past 9. We do stay up later, but not so much that would warrant sleeping in to that level. And even Leroy, who NEVER sleeps in, is finally opening his eyes at that late hour as well. I am never opposed to a sleep-in, but this is a strange phenomenon we have yet to figure out… but should we really? After all, this IS vacation…

ANYWAY…

We decided to explore a couple of sights on Going-to-the-Sun road  - first was:

The Trail to Avalanche Lake is 3 miles in with a posted elevation gain of 500’. But with all the up and down of the trail, we think it was at least double that. We are not as much of a hiking family as we would like to be, so this was an adventure for us.

But the sights were fabulous, and we did enjoy the whole thing (despite some intermittent complaining on the part of unnamed children.)

And at the end of the trail, we were rewarded with this too-spectacular-for-words vista:

The kids played for a while, we all rested up, and headed back. It took 1/3 of the time to walk back – mostly downhill!

The Trail of the Cedars was beautiful and quiet. Very much like the forests of the PNW.

Next stop was McDonald Lake and Lodge – historic and beautiful.

These two have become very close friends as they have gotten older – it’s pretty awesome.

And a obligatory photo with a Red Bus (although it is strangely orange here). We considered taking a tour in one, but decided that we could find a better use for $400+ dollars and still see everything we wanted to. We didn’t regret that decision.

Tomorrow, we have more adventures in mind…
